January 2015 update, by fcdc collaborator Jessica de Leon

Quote

For fcdc, 2014 was a year of growth: wonderful new dancers joined our ranks, we collaborated with other talented artists and musicians, and we had the opportunity to work on a handful of meaningful projects. It was a great year filled with a renewed commitment to our mission statement. And 2015 is panning out to be even greater! Looking for help to save Works in the Works 2014!

fcdc has been participating in Works in the Works over the last 3 years, and it has provided an invaluable opportunity for us to develop new work. WIW is a performance series wherein both emerging and established choreographers can present work in any stage of development and gain valuable feedback from diverse, enthusiastic, and supportive audiences that reflect the vibrancy of the Bay Area performance community. It’s one of the only low-cost, low-tech performance opportunities like it, and the oldest in the Bay Area, dating back to 1979. It needs help to stay alive this year, and after 36 years of supporting artists and providing an inclusive space for risky art-making, we think it deserves it. Please consider helping out our friends at the Choreographers’ Performance Alliance by donating to the Kickstarter before it closes on November 30, 2014!

for change dance collective takes a dip into some icy waters

This is what fcdc made in addition to our donation to the ALS Association. Instead of dumping ice water on ourselves, we took a dip in what feels like the icy waters of Northern California’s beautiful coastline. In light of the unprecedented severity of California’s drought, remember to cherish the single most precious resource on our planet, and that which is our very reason for existence. It is a change that we all must take part in, to save our water.
